Several reasons and treatment methods for poor sealing of gaskets

Rubber gaskets often leak oil, water, or oil, mainly due to various internal and external reasons of the sealing components. The following gasket manufacturer Yuantian summarizes several reasons and corresponding treatment methods for poor sealing of gaskets, as follows:
1. Hydraulic impact
There are many factors that can cause hydraulic impact, such as when the excavator bucket suddenly hits a stone, or when the crane lifts or lowers a heavy object. In addition to external factors, for high-pressure and high-flow hydraulic systems, the executing components such as hydraulic cylinders or hydraulic motors. When reversing, if the performance of the reversing valve is not very good, it is easy to generate hydraulic shock. The instantaneous high pressure generated by hydraulic impact may be several times the working pressure of the system, so the high pressure can tear the oil seal or locally squeeze into the gap in a short period of time, causing serious damage. Generally, hydraulic impact cylinders should be equipped with buffer rings and retaining rings on the piston rod.
2. Movement speed
When the movement speed is very low (0.03m/s), the stability of equipment operation and the presence of "crawling" phenomenon should be considered. When the movement speed is very high (>0.8m/s), the lubricating oil film may be damaged, and the rubber gasket may experience friction and heat due to poor lubrication, resulting in a greatly reduced lifespan.
3. Working medium
In addition to strictly following the manufacturer's recommendations for selecting the working medium, it is crucial to maintain the cleanliness of the working medium. The aging or pollution of oil not only leads to component failures in the system, accelerates the aging and friction damage of the oil seal, but also dirt may scratch or embed in the oil seal, making the rubber gasket seal ineffective. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check the quality and cleanliness of the oil, and replace the oil filter or oil according to equipment maintenance specifications. The residual air in the oil cylinder can be burned or even carbonized through high-pressure compression. To avoid this situation, exhaust treatment should be carried out during the initial operation of the hydraulic system. The hydraulic cylinder should also run slowly under low pressure for a few minutes to confirm that the residual air in the oil is discharged before it can function properly.
4. Lateral load
The support ring generally needs to be installed on the piston to ensure that the cylinder can withstand greater loads. Rubber seals and support rings play a completely different role, and rubber seals cannot replace the load of the support ring. Hydraulic cylinders with lateral forces must be equipped with strong load-bearing support rings (metal rings can be used during heavy loads) to prevent leakage and abnormal wear caused by oil seals working under eccentric conditions.
