What types of fixing screws are there?

There are many different types of fixing screws, which can be subdivided into different categories based on various classification criteria.

1. Classification based on application area
Cortical bone screws are mainly used in areas that require high fixing force, such as the cortical part of the bone.
Cancellous bone screws are designed for the cancellous part of the bone, such as the vertebrae, and are designed with full consideration of the properties and relatively low density of cancellous bone.

2. Classification based on various characteristics
Self-tapping screws: This screw has a unique thread design that can be screwed directly into the material without pre-drilling. They are often used to connect thin sheet metal.
Self-drilling screws combine the characteristics of drilling and thread generation, and are particularly suitable for applications that require simultaneous drilling and fixing.

3. Classification based on different designs
Hollow nails: This is a screw with a hollow design that is often used to reduce its weight or give it unique mechanical properties.
Locking nails: This design is equipped with a locking mechanism that can effectively prevent the screw from loosening, and is particularly suitable for applications that require high stability. Locking nails have a thicker stud, which allows it to withstand greater bending and shear forces, and its threads are narrower, so there is no need to rely on wide threads to achieve compression.

4. Classification according to function or working mechanism
Plate screw: This is a screw designed specifically for connecting plates.
The main function of a lag screw is to provide the required tension to stabilize or connect the required materials.
Position screw: This is a fixation screw used to lock or maintain a specific position.
Interlocking nails are a tool commonly used in orthopedic surgery, especially in fracture fixation. It can effectively fix fracture fragments to prevent them from shifting.
Anchor nails are tools used to fix or anchor materials, and they are widely used in construction and engineering.
Push-pull screws have a unique thread structure that can provide the necessary tightening force when pushing or pulling operations.
The function of a reduction screw is to help a material or part return to its original position or state.
Blocking nail: This is a screw whose main function is to block or prevent the movement or displacement of certain objects.

5. Classification based on other criteria
About hexagon socket screws: This is a screw with a hexagon socket head, which needs to be tightened with an hexagon socket wrench.
Cross slot screws: This is a screw with a cross slot head, which is usually tightened with a screwdriver.
The main function of a set screw is to prevent relative movement between two parts, such as a slotted flat-end set screw and a slotted cone-end set screw.
