Hard rails and linear guides (also called linear guides or line rails) play an important role in CNC machine tools and other automation equipment. There are significant differences between them, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Definition and composition
Hard rails:
Hard rails usually refer to hard rails, which are cast parts made of high-strength steel (such as cast iron, cast steel, etc.) with integrated or split rails and bed bodies.
The shape of the rails is directly processed on the castings, and the final rail structure is formed after quenching, grinding and other processes.
The movement of the hard rail is carried out on the surface of the hard rail through a flat slider, which has good static and dynamic rigidity.
Linear guides:
Linear guides, also called linear guides or line rails, are high-precision and high-efficiency linear motion components, which are widely used in CNC machine tools, robots, automation equipment and other fields.
It consists of rails, sliders, bearings and other components. The slider slides on the rails through balls or rollers to achieve linear motion.
The basic structure of a linear guide includes a guide rail, a slider and a ball (or roller). The slider has an internally circulating ball or roller, and the length of the guide rail can be customized.
2. Performance characteristics
Hard rail:
High strength, high rigidity, and can withstand large loads.
Good wear resistance, suitable for long-term continuous processing.
Excellent creep and self-lubricating properties, suitable for high-speed and heavy-load industrial production.
Small size, suitable for compact design and miniaturized production of machine tools.
However, hard rails are dry friction, with limited moving speed, and prone to creep and processing errors.
Linear guide:
High precision, high speed, and can achieve high-precision linear motion.
Low friction resistance, smooth operation, suitable for occasions with frequent position changes and slight impacts.
Easy to repair and maintain, suitable for various automation equipment and robots.
But compared with hard rails, its load-bearing capacity is small.
3. Application scenarios
Hard rail:
Suitable for processing machine tools with high speed, large load, and large cutting force, such as vertical machining centers, gantry machining centers, etc.
Suitable for occasions where the machine tool vibration requirements are not high, such as casting, turning, drilling, grinding, etc.
Linear guides:
Widely used in CNC machine tools, robots, automation equipment and other fields.
Suitable for processing with slow speed and low precision requirements, such as the processing of small precision molds.
Also suitable for occasions that require high-speed and high-precision linear motion, such as material transmission and processing tasks in automation equipment.
